JOHN KOLLMEIER

Chief Executive Officer, CHMM

SECOND ONLY TO “DAD,” THE MOST SATISFYING THING THAT I’VE EVER BEEN CALLED IS “COACH.”

I grew up in the 1970s riding my dirt bike in what later was deemed the #1 Superfund site in the US (Lipari Landfill, Pitman, NJ). We used to refer to the area as “polluted” and weren’t supposed to swim in the lake. My desire to do something about the pollution took me through the University of Delaware and then into a field scientist job at Groundwater Technology in the 1980s. Fast forward 30 years and I’m still at it. Doing something that matters really holds my attention.

In the early days at BSTI, I was involved in almost everything around here. I especially loved running remediation projects because I could see the progress we were making for our clients. I soon learned the immense benefit of hiring great people who are much smarter than me. My love for the technical side has never left me, but surrounding myself with top talent has allowed me to step back from the details and focus on the overall objectives of our clients and the quality of service that we provide them.

My wife Debbie and two terrific daughters are the center of my world. I have a soft spot for all animals, especially big dogs. My passions are many. I love to coach young athletes, care take our old farmhouse, grow veggies, golf and fish. My favorite vacations involve whitewater, hiking boots, or often both.
